The Regency Period and the “vormundschaftliche Rentkammer” in Schaumburg-Lippe

On 13 February 1787 Count Philipp II Ernst died His, and his young son Georg Wilhelm (born 20 December 1784) inherited the title at age two on that date. Because he was too young to govern, the country was administered by a regency — a guardianship government acting in his name.

This period is known in German as the Vormundschaftszeit (guardianship or regency period).

The Rentkammer was the central government office responsible for financial and property matters, such as land administration, taxes, and estate management. It continued to operate as usual during the regency.

The term “vormundschaftliche Rentkammer” does not mean there was a separate or special Rentkammer. It simply indicates that the ordinary Rentkammer was functioning under the authority of the regency government rather than under a fully reigning adult ruler.

It was before the vormundschaftliche Rentkammer that Jobst Heinrich Krückeberg made his petition.
